Everything Under The Sun

This is a review of the DVD included in Sublime's "Everything Under the Sun" new boxset. Pardon the level of depth, it is intended for fans. In this post, "STL&E" references Sublime's previous documentary 'Stories, Tales, Lies & Exaggerations".

In the background of the menu you can enjoy both "Slow Ride" and another video-version of "Date Rape". The "Slow Ride" video footage is the same seen in "STL&E" and this version of "Date Rape" is a continuous shot of band playing, ending in a mosh pit.

1) Don't Push (house of blues '96)
-"laughter! its free! anytime just call me! 439-whatever whatever whatever..." while the crowd continues "0116"
-Brad singing "dont push me too far" while the security is pushing people away from the stage
2) Garden Grove (house of blues '96)
- he messed up the lyrics while explaining "(pull over), there's a reason why my sould is unsound", aware of that, he goes whatever-whatever again
3) Right Back (house of blues '96)
-if you are an old fan, you'll get the chills with this performance
4) New Trash (house of blues '96)
-messy song in nature, messy live
5) Same In The End
-well put together, even though most of the footage used can be found in "STL&E"
6) Caress Me Down ('95)
- we've "heard" this track before (in Stand By Your Van)! its so nice to see it on video, as Brad begins "we're gonna try a new one, 'caress me down' i got new lyrics so im gonna fucking figure..."
-Lou is funny in this one, but the funniest part (cruel but funny) is when a security helps out off the front line a woman by carrying her out, and right there, a guy being thrown around by the crowd, lands right on her face.
-BRAD trying to pull a sexy move, priceless... "uhhh and the girl caress me down" right on the uhhhh... he promptly desists.

7) REAL SITUATION!
-a collage of new "old-pics" for this cover. This Marley song seems to be referring to the current affairs of humanity (all the wars and conflicts)... thats why its a classic= always current! (well, that made sense in my head at least=P)
8) atlanta interview (Warped Tour '95 by MTV)
sublime @ atlanta, the home of my braves!
-here you can see, once again, that brad (sticking out his now-very-huge belly) was quite interesting to talk to, never pretentious.....
9) Seed
-starts out as the previous video for this song (Opie painting on a wall..) but then shows more of Opie's artwork.
10) Saw Red
-same live video with gwen stefani shown in "STL&E"
Brad (alone on the stage)= oh Gwendolyn? where she at? (Gwen emerges) Gwen Stefani from No Doubt! Say what's up, alright?
Gwen = hi! "gosh bradley you look so cute!"
Brad= I'm prosperous!
Gwen= yum yum!
Brad= ill start up alright?
I notice the most mundane things: Brad's guitar pick falls, interrupting the guitar rhythm, quickly picks it up and apologizes with a mischievous smile.

11) Miami
Brad wailing, that voice is my home!
12) Hong Kong Phooey
Hong Kong Phooey' opening track impregnated with sublime's stylee... funny all the way: Brad really dances this one out.
Faaaaannrrrrriffic! At the end, the band does a brief heartfelt impersonation of hong kong phooey on a couch hehe.

13) All you need
this is my strongest I'm-so-glad-im-watching-this moment: put aside that this is one of my favorite songs, it features footage never seen in any other documentary... Sublime riding a dusty road (a lá Vanishing Point w/out the car crashes) goes along with the lyrics " Back out on the highway I wont feel afraid"

14) Mary ('95)
The video from the audio-track featured in Sublime Acoustic: Bradley Nowell and friends. And Yay! more footage from the Cattleman's Wharf.
15) Badfish
Same promo video. I think i spotted Troy twice pregnant. (I don't know the year of the shooting but Brad didn't have Jakob's tattoo yet).

16) Date Rape
Same promo video. Here you have Multi-Angle option. *Ron Jeremy plays both the Judge that 'gave him 25 years', and the large inmate from whom he takes it in the behind.
17) STP
Same intense video seen in STL&E. (Source for 'Robbin' the Hood' art cover)

In between, Brad appears drinking beer in a car and explaining to his band-mates the capture of that part of California that they are driving on from the mexicans. "thats history corner". (I believe he is talking about Stockton, which he mentions twice in the 'Paddle Out' lyrics).
18) Ebin ('94)
New footage! Brad in a Cowboy hat. I've always believed the protagonist of this song is Eric, for the bass lines and bass playing are amazing.

19) Leaving Babylon ( Costa Rica, 2/1993)
A poorly lit performance but it is a nice cover of Bad Brains.

20) Don't Push
Sublime 1990!
